ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers: The West Covina Owner’s Guide
If your ActiveYards driveway or paver section is cracked, settling, or pulling apart at the edges, we stock compatible replacement parts and install them for $7000 to $18000 depending on the size of the area and the specific ActiveYards pavers you’re matching. Most paver failures in West Covina show up after a rainy season, when expansive clay soil shifts and one section dips or separates from the next. You’ll usually notice a tripping hazard first, or water pooling where it used to drain clean.
We’re Sawyer Remodel West Covina, an independent contractor, not a dealer or affiliate of ActiveYards. That matters because we don’t have a sales quota to hit. We measure what you have, match it, price it in writing, and install it so the seam doesn’t fail again in two years.
Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards is best known for fencing, but their paver and driveway edging lines run through the same design language: modular aluminum or steel frames with paver inserts sized to drop in. The two most common in West Covina are the older Premier Paver Driveway System and the Modular Driveway Border that frames standard concrete or paver drives. The compatibility gotcha we see constantly: Premier sections use a 3-1/4 inch deep paver tray, while the Modular Border uses a 2-inch tray. They look nearly identical from above, but the shallow tray won’t seat into a Premier base and will rock under a car tire within weeks.
To identify what you have, flip up one corner section and look for a stamped code on the underside of the frame. It’ll read something like AY-PDR-36 or AY-MDB-24. The number is the length in inches. If the stamp is gone, measure the tray depth. That’s the number that tells us which replacement part to order or pull off the truck. For OEM versus aftermarket: ActiveYards still distributes through select suppliers in California, but lead times run two to four weeks. Quality aftermarket equivalents we’ve used hold up just as well in sun exposure and run about 25% less. We’ll quote both and let you choose.

Signs Your ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- One corner pops up at the seam. This is almost always root intrusion or soil expansion underneath. In West Covina, between the summer heat and winter rain cycles, clay soil swells and contracts enough to lift a corner 3/8 of an inch.
- The paver insert wobbles under foot. The tray may still be intact, but the substrate underneath has washed out. That’s a base failure, not a paver failure, and it needs correcting before the new part goes in.
- Rust staining at the frame joints. ActiveYards frames are powder-coated aluminum, but where the coating gets scratched by a tire or shovel, Southern California’s oxidation cycle kicks in. Once the coating fails, the metal underneath starts breaking down.
- Water ponds in the middle of the driveway. A settled section drops below grade and becomes a basin. It won’t self-correct, and every rain event makes it worse.
- The edging pulls away from the driveway slab. The stakes holding the border in place have sheared or pulled out of dry soil. This is the most common failure on the older Modular Border system in West Covina.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full ActiveYards-style paver driveway replacement in West Covina runs $7000 to $18000, installed. Partial replacements, where we correct a settling section or replace a border run, land in the $2500 to $6500 range. What drives the spread: the size of the area, whether the base underneath is still solid or needs re-compacting, and whether you’re replacing the entire system or just the paver trays.
Every quote includes removal of the failed section, base correction if needed, the new parts, labor, and haul-off of the old material. The price we write down before work starts is the price on the invoice. No change orders mid-job because we found a surprise, because by the time we quote we’ve already looked under the surface. All work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, we make it right, in writing.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check the depth of your paver tray, look for a stamped code, and clear loose debris from the joints. That’s all useful info when you call us. What goes wrong on the DIY side: swapping a paver without fixing the base underneath means the new part fails in the same spot within a season. In West Covina’s expansive clay, the base is the actual repair, and that means digging down 4 to 6 inches, re-compacting, and sometimes adding a stabilization layer. It’s not glamorous work, but skipping it is why we see the same driveway re-repaired every few years.
If you’re replacing a single border paver you found at a supplier and the base is solid, go for it. If you need to match multiple sections, correct drainage, or you’re not sure which tray depth you have, call us at (341) 217-4204 and we’ll come measure it. The estimate is free.
FAQs

Expect 10 to 15 years from the paver trays and inserts in West Covina’s climate, with the frame lasting 20 or more if the coating stays intact. The weak point is usually the base underneath, not the ActiveYards product itself, which is why we spend so much time on substrate prep before a single paver goes in. Call (341) 217-4204 if you’re at year 12 and seeing movement.
Yes, if the surrounding sections are stable we replace just the failed section and match the existing pattern and color as closely as the product line allows. The risk is color variation between old and new, but a worn-in set of pavers often has enough fading that a mismatch is barely noticeable. We’ll show you samples before ordering.
A border replacement or single-section repair is usually one day. A full driveway replacement runs three to five days, depending on how much base rework is needed and whether the weather cooperates. You’ll know the schedule before we start, along with a live arrival time and photo updates during the job.
We carry common Modular Border trays, stakes, and connectors on the truck in standard lengths. Premier Driveway System parts are usually ordered per job because the lengths vary too much to keep every option in inventory. Lead times run two to four weeks for OEM, less for quality aftermarket equivalents. Call (341) 217-4204 and we’ll tell you what we have and what needs to be ordered before you commit to anything.
