Cambria Kitchen Remodeling: The West Covina Owner’s Guide

Cambria kitchen remodeling in West Covina typically runs $14,000 to $45,000 installed, depending on countertop square footage, cabinet work, and whether we’re replacing a single slab or redoing the whole kitchen. Most Cambria work we quote is completed within 2 to 4 weeks once the slab is selected and templated. Homeowners usually call us after a seam has separated, an edge has chipped, or a sink cutout has started showing hairline cracks around the faucet holes.

Cambria is quartz, not granite or marble, which matters when something fails. It doesn’t need sealing, but it’s not indestructible. Heat from a pan set directly on the surface, a heavy pot dropped on an overhang, or a bad original install with uneven shimming can all lead to cracks, seam gaps, or a slab that’s no longer level. In West Covina homes built in the 1960s through 1980s, we frequently see original cabinets settling and pulling the Cambria top out of plane, which is when seams start to open up.

We’re an independent remodeling contractor in West Covina, not a Cambria dealer or factory service center. That means we work on your whole kitchen, not just the slab. If the countertop failed because the cabinet underneath is sagging, we fix both. A countertop-only shop can’t do that.

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

A stone counter, tile backsplash and open shelf after a kitchen remodel

Cambria runs a broad design line, but the structural specs are consistent across the catalog. Standard slab thickness is 3 cm (about 1-1/4 inches), and the 2 cm option is used for vertical applications like backsplashes and shower walls, not kitchen counters. If your Cambria top is 2 cm with a laminated front edge, it’s almost certainly from a builder-grade install, and that edge is the first place we see delamination in West Covina kitchens.

Cambria designs fall into a few families: the Marble collection (Brittanicca, Ella, Torquay), the Concrete collection (Langdon, Roxwell), the Waterstone and Highline collections, and the newer Inverness and Everleigh lines. Functionally, they’re all the same quartz surface. The design name doesn’t change how we repair or replace it, but it does change the cost if we’re matching an existing slab. Brittanicca has huge veining variation; a patch or partial slab replacement rarely matches perfectly, so we’re upfront about that before anyone spends money.

If you’re unsure what Cambria design you have, look for the small etched mark on the underside of the slab or check your original paperwork. Most Cambria slabs sold in the last 15 years have a production label on the back. If all else fails, a photo of the surface in natural light gets us close. For OEM vs aftermarket, Cambria doesn’t sell through third parties, so any “Cambria-branded” repair kit online is either aftermarket or counterfeit. We source slabs through authorized Cambria fabricators in the LA area and use manufacturer-spec adhesives and seam fillers. The aftermarket debate doesn’t really apply to slab replacement; it applies to things like sink clips, seam setters, and undermount brackets, where we use products from the same suppliers Cambria fabricators use.

Signs Your Cambria Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Seam separation wider than a dime. This means the two slabs were joined under tension or the cabinets beneath have shifted. West Covina’s clay soil expands and contracts with rain and drought, and slab-on-grade homes move enough to flex cabinets and pop seams.
  • Hairline cracks radiating from a sink cutout or cooktop opening. The two weakest points in any quartz top are the narrow strips in front of and behind the sink. A crack here usually means the original fabricator cut corners on support rods or the cabinet opening wasn’t reinforced.
  • Chipped or flaking front edge. Quartz edges are polished, not laminated, but a hard impact can still leave a chip. If the edge is delaminating in layers, you have a 2 cm laminated top, and that edge will keep failing until the top is replaced with a full 3 cm slab.
  • Countertop no longer level, with visible gaps between the slab and cabinet tops. This is a cabinet problem showing up as a countertop problem. Shims have compressed, or termite or water damage has weakened the cabinet box. Silicone caulk will hide the gap for a few months, but it won’t fix the movement.
  • Discoloration or clouding that won’t clean off. Cambria resists staining, but harsh chemicals like oven cleaner, paint stripper, or undiluted bleach can etch the resin binder and leave permanent dull spots. Once the surface is chemically damaged, no polish restores it. The slab either gets resurfaced by a stone pro or replaced.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

New painted shaker cabinets with an organized deep drawer

In West Covina, a Cambria kitchen countertop replacement runs roughly $2,000 to $6,500 for the countertop portion alone within a larger remodel, but the full kitchen scope with Cambria, cabinets, backsplash, and island work lands in the $14,000 to $45,000 range we quoted above. The spread comes down to slab square footage, the specific Cambria design you choose, edge profile, sink type, and whether the cabinets need repair or full replacement beneath the stone.

What that includes: demolition and disposal of the old top, cabinet inspection and reinforcement if needed, templating by laser, slab fabrication through an authorized Cambria fabricator, installation with mechanical seam setting, undermount sink mounting, and silicone sealing at all wall transitions. We don’t charge change orders when we find a problem under the slab, because we price the cabinet inspection into the initial quote. The written price you approve before we start is the price on the invoice. Every Cambria install carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a seam opens, an edge chips from a defect in workmanship, or the top isn’t level within that year, we come back and make it right. No argument, no re-quote.

DIY or Call Us?

Cambria quartz weighs about 18 to 20 pounds per square foot. A typical West Covina kitchen with 40 square feet of countertop means you’re moving 700 to 800 pounds of stone. That’s not a weekend DIY job, and a cracked slab from a botched lift is a total loss, not a repair. What you can safely do yourself: photograph the damage, measure the full countertop run including the overhang depth, check if the cabinets feel solid by pressing down on the corners, and write down any uneven gaps you see between the slab and cabinet tops. That information gets you a faster, more accurate phone estimate.

What we’d rather you not attempt: prying up a cracked section with a crowbar, using construction adhesive to glue a seam back together, or sanding a chip with a random orbit sander. We’ve all seen YouTube, but quartz dust isn’t harmless, and a badly glued seam we have to cut apart costs more to fix than the original issue. If it’s a small chip, send us a photo first. If it’s a crack, a bowed seam, or a top that’s out of level, call (341) 217-4204. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a repair visit or a replacement quote, and you’ll know the price before we send anyone out.
